VIEWS FOR 20/20 by Dr. Mark Skowron DRIVING SAFETY The American Optometric Association (AOA) would like to remind older drivers that their safety and the safety of others are directly related to their vision. As we get older, it is important to point out that many eye diseases that compromise vision have no early symptoms. They may develop painlessly, in which case, those afflicted with age-related eye disease may not notice the changes to their vision until the condition is quite advanced. With this in mind, the AOA recommends annual eye examinations for everyone over age 60. If older drivers have trouble seeing at night and coping with glare from oncoming headlights or sunlight reflected off car surfaces, they are urged to have their eyes examined immediately. A comprehensive eye exam to assess your visual system and eye health involves a number of different of tests. Unlike a simple vision screening, which only assesses your vision, a comprehensive eye exam includes a battery of tests in order to do a complete evaluation of the health of your eyes and your vision. To schedule an exam, please call SKOWRON EYE CARE. Experience, commitment to technology, and a genuine concern for patient welfare enable all of our doctors and our highly qualified staff to work as a team to consistently deliver quality, affordable eye care. At Skowron Eye Care, your 20/20 vision is our mission. P.S. In many cases, lenses can be prescribed for older drivers that improve acuity, color perception, and nighttime vision.
