VIEWS FOR 20/20 by Dr. Mark Skowron "LAZY EYE" The childhood condition known as "amblyopia" occurs when one eye doesn't develop as it should. Initially, this problem may result from one eye focusing better than the other, which may be more farsighted or have more astigmatism. As the brain receives both the clear image from the good eye and the blurred image from the "lazy eye," it will dismiss the blurred image. Without treatment, the blurriness can worsen. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended that children have their eyes examined at the ages of six months, one year, and three years. The most common treatment involves forcing the brain to begin using the weak eye by correcting refraction errors and wearing a patch over the strong eye. Vision consists of much more than just 20/20 eyesight. Vision allows us to obtain meaning and understanding from what we see. Poor vision can affect a child's ability to learn in school and complete homework. When you need to schedule an eye exam for you or a family member, please contact SKOWRON EYE CARE. At Skowron eyecare, your 20/20 vision is our mission. P.S. Amblyopia ("lazy eye"), which generally develops from birth up to age seven years, is the leading cause of decreased vision among children SKOWRON EYE CARE 370 N.
