VIEWS FOR 20/20 by Dr. Mark Skowron and Dr. Michelle Skowron UNDERSTANDING COLOR BLINDNESS Color blindness makes it difficult to differentiate between various colors, especially between certain color combinations. Color blind individuals may also have a hard time seeing different shades of color and the brightness level of colors. Although the condition is usually genetic, certain traumas and diseases can also cause color blindness. People who are completely color blind don't see color at all, but this condition is rare. There are two other types of color blindness. One makes it difficult to tell the difference between red and green, while the other makes it challenging to tell the difference between yellow and blue. Because our eyes adjust to the way we see colors, some people with color blindness don't realize they have it. Caring for your eyes is essential in preventing or minimizing the chance of a variety of different eye diseases including developed color blindness. Congenital color blindness cannot be addressed with good eye care, however the risk of developing color blindness later in life can be greatly minimized if you protect your eyes at all times. To schedule an appointment, please call SKOWRON EYE CARE. At Skowron Eye Care, our mission is your vision. P.S. Everyday technologies now provide some solutions for those who are color blind. For example, certain phone apps let you take a photo and then tap on different areas of the photo to find out what color they are. SKOWRON EYE CARE 370 N.
